Organization & Training
The technical-scientific committee defines the structure of WOCE™ projects.
The technical-scientific committee appoints Supervisors and trainers who have the duty to:
- Keep themselves updated also by participating to the yearly exchange meetings between Supervisors and trainers
- Keep a record of their work and pass it on to the scientific committee
- Be responsible for their working group and maintain continuous supervision over the work of a facilitator. In case of misuse by a facilitator and if there is a proved discrepancy between his/her work and the guidelines, a Trainer and/or Supervisor will give written notice to the facilitator forbidding him/her to continue the WOCE project. Copy of the communication is sent to the scientific committee.
A trainer can organize congresses and training sessions for Schools, Public Health Institutions, associations, groups of operators and supervises the training of an individual operator (a future WOCE facilitator).
The operators interested in using the support WOCE have to undergo a training that includes theory and practice within different communication disabilities.
The trained operators work under the direct supervision of a trainer or supervisor. The supervision process continues in time and is based on the characteristics and goals of each individual new project. At the end of the course presentation of a final written report is expected, accompanied by a video showing the different phases of the project.
A WOCE operator must have the skills to :
- Be able to manage behaviour problems or inappropriate behavior
- Give support for the development of a clear, gradually more articulated and complex communication
- Supply emotional support
- Give appropriate feedback during a written production
- Help to identify eventual barriers (physical, sensory, emotional) between the individual and the environment
- Promote the individual’s independence
- Keep a record of the individual’s progress
- Encourage and foster the communication exchange between the individual and the greatest possible number of partners within a project
- Integrate the eventual different communication abilities of the individual.
- Work in a team with the trainer and supervisor
- Finally an operator/facilitator in agreement with his/her trainer or supervisor may apply to be communication assistant in schools or Universities to support the educational program
