W.O.C.E.™ WRITTEN OUTPUT COMMUNICATION ENHANCEMENT
The goal of the following guidelines is to outline some important information in order to apply the WOCE™ support correctly.
Definition
WOCE™ is a rehabilitative and educational strategy to support communication skills both in people with ASD (with partial or total lack of speech) and in people with other neurological pathologies involving consequent speech impairment.
WOCE™ is a rehabilitative and educational strategy that has its place in the rationale of the cognitive science. Both its correct use and efficacy are monitored by the University of Tor Vergata, Roma, Italy.
WOCE™ consists of activities and tools to facilitate attention, learning and communication skills.
WOCE™ provides a learning process in:
- the underlying abilities included in the acquisition of the communication process
- the symbolic and not symbolic abilities of communication
- writing abilities as an alternative means of communication to speech
WOCE™ structures a program to acquire the ability of intentional pointing as a means of communication.
WOCE™ supports the development of limited speech.
WOCE™ includes, in its global project, the use of tools/strategies for communication which, depending on the context and/or the abilities of the person, might prove effective.
